If you’re tired of sticky denture adhesives that don’t allow you to enjoy your smile the way you want to, it might be time to consider dental implants. Dental implants are tougher and more durable ways to attach replacement teeth, but which method is right for you?

Dental Implants

Dental implants are placed in the bone sockets of missing teeth. The jawbone heals around the titanium root for six to 12 weeks, at which point surgery is performed to either attach a porcelain crown or a new set of dentures.

Though dental implants are permanent and act as replacement teeth, they require invasive surgery and a lengthy recovery time.

Mini Dental Implants

Mini dental implant, or MDIs, are implants with diameters of less than three millimeters. MDIs eliminate the need for lengthy surgery and allow you to get implants to stabilize your dentures in one easy placement.

MDIs act as natural tooth roots and are placed with the drilling of a tiny hole in the jawbone. The placement is so precise that patients don’t even usually need stitches, and only a mild anesthetic is administered. Your dentures are then fitted to snap onto the MDIs, preventing discomfort, slipping and wobbling.

Computer Guided Surgery

For this option, dentists use computerized scans and 3D imaging to plan the placement of dental implants in three dimensions, eliminating guesswork and ensuring effective and precise placement.

The CT scans used are the same that surgeons use for joint-replacement surgeries. The 3D model also allows the dentist to create a restoration before the surgery and place it that day, meaning you can get your new permanent teeth in hours rather than months.
